Mia Elmsäter is the mother of three adult sons. She resides in Järna, Sweden and Aurora, Colorado. She studied sports in college in 1971 and has studied the Montessori method of education for day-care children in 1984. She has owned and run an alternative day-care centre. Mia has been working with the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) since 1986 teaching parent classes and developing massage programmes for babies/children with special needs. Among those was organising and helping to set up the very first day care centre in Romania which integrated children with special needs.

 

Mia has created and co-created several massage and touch programmes an DVDs, including "Tactile Stimulation" for children and adults with special needs, "Touch Therapy" used in nursing homes, and "Child Massage" used in Swedish day-care centres.

Sylvie Hétu has a college diploma in nutrition from Montreal Maisonneuve College (1976) and a BSc degree in Education from Montréal University (1980) and is a qualified Steiner-teacher (master level) trained with l’Institut Rudolf Steiner au Québec (1998). She is the mother of three grow-up children. She has a college diploma in nutrition from Montreal Maisonneuve College (1976) and a BSc degree in Education from Montréal University (1980) and is a qualified Steiner-teacher (master level) trained with l’Institut Rudolf Steiner au Québec (1998). She has taught primary school, as well biology and nutrition lessons to teenagers, and is an international lecturer on infant massage, parenting and education.

 

Sylvie has been working with the International Association of Infant Massage since 1983 teaching parents of various background including multi cultural groups and vulnerable families, and since 1989 as an international Trainer bringing the IAIM in several countries on the five continents.

 

Together, the co-founders have combined their experiences to create the "Massage in Schools Programme", which was introduced in the UK in 1999.
They co-authored the Massage in Schools Manual for Instructors (2000) revised in 2008 and 2016 and the book Touch in Schools: a Revolutionary Strategy to Replace Bullying by Respect and to Reduce Violence (2010)

The creation of MISA Singapore as a non-profit association is to support the membership of MISP Instructors and promote the Massage in Schools Programme in Singapore.  

 

Members of MISA Singapore will have access to the member's section of the website where you will find resources to support you as an Instructor and latest updates and newsletters from us and from MISA International.

 

We are constantly looking for members who are willing to contribute their time and talents towards the association in many different areas. So, if you are a good administrator, writer, organiser, have a knack for posting interesting updates on social media or simply keen to help out, get in touch today to find out how you can put your skills to good use with us!

Membership of MISA Singapore is only open to MISP Instructors who have taken the 2 Day Massage in Schools Programme Instructor Training.

The current membership fees are :

 

​Lifetime membership : S$50

As the Massage in Schools Programme is a copyright programme, we invite you to maintain branch membership as long as you are an active MISP Instructor. For New Instructors who took your training in Singapore, first year membership is already included in your training fee.
